Ride Report #18

Rain, Rain go away!

Yesterday on my commute home from work I experienced my first down pour of rain while on the bike. With the Philly heat we’ve been experiencing I have to admit, it felt great…. for the first few minutes. By the time I made it home I was completely soaked and felt like I had just jumped in a pool.

The rig handled the wet roads without a problem but I did find it difficult to see at times with the rain pounding on my helmets visor. Not sure how people ride in that kind of weather at top speeds as I was only in the 35-45 mph speed range.

I chose to leave the rig at home today and seeing that it has rained pretty hard, I think I made the right choice. Here’s hoping for riding weather this weekend. More reports on the way!

Dude ;) Don’t fear the rain… I had to take the last day of my class, and my test while it was raining last year! :)

That said… I PREFER not to ride in the rain, as I then have to spend an inordinate amount of time cleaning the bike afterward… re-waxing the chain… cleaning off the water spots…

One trick I learned is to Rain-X my helmet’s visor. I wear a full-face like you (gotta protect our chins, you know!) and when the visor is treated with that stuff, the water just beads off it. You can also turn your head to one side or the other as you go, and the rain will sheet off the visor from the wind.
